Under his supervision the Com-pany has grown to more than five times its origi-nal proportions, and now has a branch manufac-tory at Cleveland, 0., in successful operation,also under Mr. Upsons general two years ago he assumed the active man- 50 agement and treasurership of the Standard RuleCompany, having at that time been its Presidentfor three years. Senator Upsons career hasbeen one of remarkable financial success, and shows the innate character of the man. James Samuel Elton of Waterbury wasborn in that city November 7,1838, and receivedan academic education, including a two yearscourse at General Russells Military School atNew Haven. He is a prominent business manat Waterbury, and is a director of a number ofthe leading manufacturing concerns there, in-cluding the American Pin Company, the CoeBrass Manufacturing Company, the WaterburyBrass Company, of which he is at present thepresident, and also in the Wheeler & WilsonManufacturing Company. He was formerly a director in the Holmes, Booth & Hayden Com-pany, and president of the American Pin Com-pany.
