Decorative textiles; an illustrated book on coverings for furniture, walls and floors, including damasks, brocades and velvets, tapestries, laces, embroideries, chintzes, cretones, drapery and furniture trimmings, wall papers, carpets and rugs, tooled and illuminated leathers. rounded ends containing (juotations in Arabic fromthe Koran in black on grey; and four other rectangles containingChinese cloud bands, florals and vine traceries in red, yellow and blackon orange and white grounds. This rug formerly belonged to theBardini Collection in Florence, is five feet five inches by three feetthree inches, and was illustrated by Doctor F. R. IMartin in his splen-did book entitled, Oriental Carpets. SEHNA, SEREBEND AND EEREGHANS A tyjiical Sehna rug is that illustrated in Plate XII. It has theHerati motif, in both l)order and field; pile of silky wool clijiped \eryshort, and a very fine textiu-e. Instead of the Herati design, someSehnas have the pear motif or a central diamond or medallion. WhilstSehnas excel other modern Oriental rugs in fineness of weave, theknots are tied so tight that the edges of the rug are likely to curl andpucker. Warp and weft are usually of cotton, but sometimes of have narrow end selvages, finished with loose fringe. 21,S.
