Rare colony of 6 kilometre long thrombolite living rocks calcium carbonate accreted structures in shallow water, billion years old at lake Clifton.

Views of the shallow Lake Clifton in South Western Australia and the rare colony of 6 kilometre long thrombolite living rocks structures being a living relic from the earliest days of life on our planet., built by tiny micro-organisms believed to resemble the earliest forms of life on Earth. Scientists have suggested their presence here may be due to upwellings of fresh groundwater high in calcium carbonate. An observation walkway has been constructed to allow visitors to view these fragile structures.
