In 64 cases of sarcoma oI)served by Coley, 12 occurred in 777 KUTZMANN AND GIBSON undescended testicles, a ratio of i: 5J4 ( per cent.). He also showsthe frequency with which undescended testicles complicate hernias. In80,736 cases of inguinal hernia occurring in male adults 1357, or i : 59J4( per cent.) were associated with undescended testicles. In 59,235 casesof inguinal hernia in the male sex at the Hospital for Ruptured and CrippledChildren (1890-1907), there were 737 cases of sarcoma of the unde-scended testis. The frequency of malignancy in the intraabdominal testicle. .ri-, is slight, the proportion here being I : 60,000 ( per cent.) of male admis-sions to general hospitals. One out of every 75 intraabdominal testes willliecome malignant and 25 per cent, of malignant undescended testes areintraabdominal (Bulkley). Trelat states that the left testis is involved more often than the right andthat very seldom both may be involved. In our review of the literature weare unable to substantiate this statement. In Chevassus series the right wasinvolved 56 times and the left 50. Cunningham reports a series in whichthe right was involved 34 times and the left 25. From these statistics andothers, it appears that the frequency on the two sides is about equal. Theoccurrence of bilateral tumors is very rare, Chevassu, noting only one in 778 MALIGNANT TUMORS OF THE TESTICLE IN CHILDREN 128 cases. Kober noted five in a series of 93, while Cunningham foundthree in 67. The tumors generally resemble a hens egg in size and shape. They aresom
