A Bedey father and his child. Bedeys belong mainly to the ethnic Mong-tong group from the ancient Burmese state of Arakan who settled in Bikrampur near Dhaka and later spread out to remote areas of Bengal and Assam. Traditionally they practice folk medicine and spiritual healing for livelihood, besides being snake catchers and snake charmers. The community generally lives in clusters on manchas (platforms), or shacks by the side of rivers or on boats. Dhaka, Bangladesh. 2007.
