EREMURUS. Robustus. A noble and rare bulbous plant from Turkestan, and one of the choicest .subjects for the permanent hardy border. They thrive best in a well- drained, sheltered, sunny position, and prefer a deep, sandy loam, to which has been added a liberal quantity of well-rotted cow manure. A covering of 4 or 5 inches of leaves or litter will be beneficial and save the young shoots, which start early, and are liable to be damaged by late frosts. It produces immense flower stems, 0 to 10 feet high, bearing a dense raceme of flowers, each nearly 2 inches across. (See cut.) Extra strong-flowering roots (ready in October), $ each; $ per doz. Himalaicus. Another noble variety from the temperate Himalayan mount- ains, 4 to 8 feet high. Raceme nearly 2 feet long, of lovely pure white flowers as large as a fifty-cent piece. This is perhaps the hardiest and easiest grown of this magnificent genus. Strong-flowering roots (ready in October), $ each; $ per doz. The Narcisiiu illustrated on the cover of this .Catalogue are extra fine.
