When one of the cham-bers is in line with the barrel the other is inline with. the magazine, and the loaded cartridge pushes outthe old shell, the bullet being too large to pass intothe slide further than its seat. The cartridge is firedin the slide, the force of the recoil serving to cockthe firing-pin so that it is in position for the next shot. The same system is intended to be used witha maga/.ine stnall arm. ])r.
