Fore ward, these cavern-ous bodies or tubes terminate in rounded points under theglans penis. This internal tissue consists of cells connected with eachother, and having a free communication through the wholeextent of the penis. They are intei-posed betwixt the extre-mities of the arteries and veins, or probably while the arterieshave communication, and open into the extremities of theveins, in the common way: they have such connexions withthe cellular structure, that in the accelerated or excited actionthey pour their blood into the cells ; yet in such a manner, that the blood circulates in the penis during erection as atother times, and the blood in the cavernous body is not stag-nant. Corpus spongiosum urethra.—Attachedto the cavernousbody of the penis there is a spongy body similar in structure;through this celkdar or cavernous texture the canal for theurine, called the urethra, takes its course, which gives rise tothe name spongy body of the urethra, or corpus spongiosumiiret/irx. The spongy body extends the whole length of the penis, and where it extends backwards into the perineum, betwixtthe crura of the penis, it is enlarged into a round head, whichis called the bulbous part;—it is upon this, and on about aninch and a half of the lower part of the spongy body, that theejaculator seminis or accelerator urinff. acts ; and,as within thisenlargement of the spongy body which surrounds the urethrec
