Upon the main cornice appeared, in bold letters on atransparency, the motto — a united empire. It was flanked by smaller transparencies bearing thewords — ships, colonies, commerce; also, freedom, civilisation, peace. In the centre of the third floor was a transparency i8 14 ft., presenting- an admirable allegorical picture of theOld Queen and the Young Queen.
