U-Bahn Olympia-Stadion underground railway station on U 2 line in Westend district, Berlin. Stairs to platform. The station Stadion was opened on 8 June 1913, together with the Deutsches Stadion, predecessor of the Olympic Stadium. The station was intended for use during the 1916 Olympic games but WWl intervened and the games were cancelled. A regular train service at the Stadion station was not available until 1922. The station was redesigned for the 1936 Summer Olympics by architect Alfred Grenander and was renamed Reichssportfeld. The station took a direct hit during WWll air raids on 15 February 1944, The station was renamed Olympia-Stadion in 1950 and between 1992 and 1999, it was called name Olympia-Stadion (Ost). The station building was restored in for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and was supplied with blue pillars and benches in the colours of the local Hertha BSC Berlin football club.
