Silicene research. Particle accelerator in a silicene research laboratory in France. Silicene is a sheet of silicon that is one atom thick, making it effectively two dimensional. This enables the manufacture of much smaller, faster electronics. Silicene is made by evaporating silicon onto a silver plate to form a single layer of atoms.
