Mothers' day business was extremely good and all retailers were kept busy. On the wholesale market, carnations, as usual, made the most pronounced ad- vance. Prices May 9 and 10 varied from $8 to $12 per hundred. Attempts of some growers and salesmen to reach $15 met with complete failure, as re- tailers refused to pay that price and substituted roses, which were in abun- dant supply and at more moderate prices. Carnations ruled strong all the week. Many growers held back flowers too long
