The Kunsthaus, an exhibition centre of international contemporary art, was built in 2003 as part of Graz being on of the Cultural Capitals of Europe in the same year. The architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier called the design „Friendly Alien“ as it contrasts strongly with the surrounding tiled roofs of the city center.
