PINCUSHION INN 187 Illustration i) is interesting as being the only one ofthat name, and though neither the present inn nor itssign are of any great age, there is every reason to-believe that there was an inn of the same name onthe same spot two or three centuries ago. Referenceis made to it in the old parish accounts, it is alsomentioned in connection with the riots on the enclosureof Holland Fen, the most southern of the threedivisions of the County of Lincoln, in 1768, andmany old inhabitants speak of it as existing in theirforefathers time. The inn stands on the high roadbetween Boston and London, just where the oldRoman road from the sea-bank over the fens crossesthe high road at right angles. The present buildingdates about sixty years back. The pincushion uponthe inn-sign
