Fireworm are also called Bearded Fire Worm, Hermodice carunculata. This beautiful worm is a common species throughout the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea and can be found in algae reefs, rocky areas and along the bottom up to a depth of 150 m. Their white bristles along their body sites are venomous and serve as defense against predators. The maximum growth of these polychaetes reaches 35 cm, common lengths are between 5 to 10 cm though.
