'Rain' Stanza Stone at Cows Head Quarry

Along the path of the reservoir circuit between White Holme reservoir and Blackstone Edge reservoir you come across this interesting rock formation. The rock on the top has been likened to a dogs head, the ones on the far right to eagle heads. Look closely at the centre base of the rock to see the carving. The 'Rain' Stanza Stone is the third stone of the Stanza Stone project, found at Cow's Mouth Quarry at Blackstone edge. There are seven Stanza Stones, each one is carved with a poem by the poet Simon Armitage. They are found in locations which follow the Pennine watershed, they were written to reflect the relationship between the language and landscape of Yorkshire.
