But little used for out-door planting. Hittinger's Belmont Forcing. A choice strain for forcing in the greenhouse. "Muchlarger than the White Seeded Tennis Ball and a little later. Quality excellent. Very profitable for market. Not recommended for out-door culture. ^*^-Big Boston. Like the Belmont Forcing, this is nearly identical in general ap- pearance with the White Seed Tennis Ball or Boston Market, but is much larger, often growing double the size. It grows to a large solid head, is crisp and free from bitterness, and is especially desirable for mid-season or late planting. Black Seed Tennis Ball. Used in New England for the first out-door plant- ing, and is the first to head. Used in New York and other sections for forcing. Heads medium size and compact, leaves thick, dark green, and when quickly grown, crisp and tender. H^arpy Curled Simpson. (White seed.) Early, forms a small loose head, leaves much curled, of excellent quality, and entensively culti- vated both under glass and out-doors. *f$lack Seed Simpson. Much larger than the preceding, but not as much curled. Forms a large loose cluster of leaves rather than a head, leaves light yellowish green; a good variety and extensively grown. *Early Curled Silesia. An old standard sort, very popular for home gardens and market. * Boston Fine Curled. A variety highly esteemed for earliness, beauty of form and good table qualities; beautifully curled. *The Deacon. An excellent sort, medium early, heads of good size, with few outer leaves, which are deep green, the inner ones blanching to a bright yello
