Von Braun and ABMA rocket scientists, 1950s. German-US rocket scientist and engineer Wernher von Braun (1912-1977) played key roles in developing German rocket weapons during World War II, and US rockets in the 1950s and 1960s, especially those used to reach the Moon. He was Director of the Marshall Space Flight Center from 1960 to 1970. Here, he is with scientists and engineers from the Peenemuende team (those who had worked with him in Germany during the war), in front of Building 4488, at the Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama, USA. These scientists (captured at the end of the war) led the US Army's research at the Army Ballistic Missile Agency (ABMA) before they transferred to the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA, formed in 1958) and what became the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Mrazek, Hans Hueter, Eberhard Rees, Kurt Debus, and Hans H. Maus.
