Provision is made for bringing the jaws closer to-gether, to compensate for wear. Thin strips of metal are also pro-vided to put behind the bars to keep the wearing-faces in line. Thebars or crushing-faces can easily be got af by taking the nuts fromthe bolts, and sliding the stationary jaw forward. The fourth improvement consists in hanging the jaws on an axisbelow the crushing-faces, instead of at the top, as in the Blakecrusher. This manner of hanging the movable jaw gives a moreuniform product, and the principle is correct, since the strain onthe jaw is greater at the bottom than at the top, and the motionshould be the least where the strain is the greatest. Ficx. 3 Rolling Toggles. The fifth improvement consists in the employment of toggles withrolling ends which work without friction or oil. It is shown in and 3 a. In the latter cut, the teeth which hold the toggles in placeare omitted on one end so as to better show the bearings are self-adjusting, large and long, and the machine isconstructed for high speed, hard work, and large crushing-capacity. 500 IMPROVEMENTS IN ORE-CRUSHING MACHINERY. Fig. 4 represents the first step in the improvement of crushing-rolls, constructed with bolts to take the strain. It is also the firstcrushing machine with forged steel tires. The system of the gear-ing is also new. It will be observed also that the pillow-blocks arewell adapted to take the strain. This is the first machine of thekind carried on a bed-plate in one piece. Breaking-cups are alsointroduced to relieve the machine from undue strain. The patentcovers the bolts to take the strain, the system of gearing
