210105-N-PM193-2057 WASHINGTON (Jan. 5, 2021) Secretary of the Navy Kenneth J. Braithwaite signs a Navy Cross award citation addressed to Navy Chaplain Lt. Thomas M. Conway from the Pentagon. Conway was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his heroic efforts aboard the USS Indianapolis (CA 35) when it was attacked and sunk by an enemy submarine in 1945.
