Artist/engraver/cartographer: Claes Janszoon Visscher (1587 - 19 June 1652), a Dutch Golden Age draughtsman, engraver, mapmaker and publisher. Provenance: Published in Amsterdam in 1661. Type: A very decorative uncoloured engraved map. The map is orientated towards the west, with the Mediterranean shore of Israel/Palestine at the top, with the Dea Sea and the Sea of Galilee shown inland. The map depicts the Holy Land with four scenes from the life of Christ, title cartouche, two other cartouches surrounded by cherubs, and two fisherman.
