Angiography. Surgical team performing an angiography on a patient. X-ray images of the patient's blood vessels are seen on the monitors at upper right. Angiography involves injecting a radio-opaque contrast medium into the blood to highlight the vessels in X-ray images. This technique is used to ascertain the health of blood vessels and isolate any narrowings (stenoses) or blockages, as these can lead to tissue damage (ischaemia) or death as a result of restricted blood supply.
