In Canada or the States, the would-be angler usually has some distance to travel by rail or road before he can throw a fly on the water unless he be one cf the lucky members of the piscatorial art who lives in the country with fishing close to his hand. On the other side, unless one rents astretch of salmon water in Scotland, no greatdistance has to be covered to obtain decentfishing, as nearly every country place has atrout stream witliin walking distance. Many of the big towns in the north ofEngland have very good fishing within easyreach, which is taken advantage of by thetired townsman when the welcome cessationfrom business on Saturday enables him towander by the water for a time.
