Two life-size lizards sculptures made in 1994 to decorate the center of Amsterdam.
While wandering the streets and canals of Amsterdam you can meet these unusual life-size statues of lizards. The place is designed by sculptor Hans van Houwelingen and is known as Blauw Jan named so after Blaauw Jan Westerhof, a 17th century pub owner who had a small private zoo. There are about 40 lizards (monitors, agames and iguanas) that decorate the grass in Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen, close to the Leidseplein, in the city center of Amsterdam.
