In November, 1814, the home-built organwas brought to Aberdeen and installed inthe church, a small gallery in the west sideof the building having been erected for itsaccommodation. The cost of 100 guineaswas promptly paid. Much expense inextras was also incurred, and then, in ashort time, it was found that a very badbargain had been made, and that the in-strument would not answer the purpose forwhich it was required. In June, 1815, was again approached, with theresult that he sent down what has been. Priest Gordon. considered a very superior small by Messrs. Slight and Robison. Itwas first used on Sunday, 2nd July, 1815,by Mr. John Boss, an experienced organistof these days. The total price—£306—waspaid by Mr. Gordon out of his own pocket,with the remark that he was most happyto have it in his power to give this proofof his sincere regard for the congregation,and of his anxiety for the decent appear-ance of the church. To accommodate thisnew instrument an addition had to bemade to the gallery. The first organistwas Mrs. Catharine William Fraser, thechoirmaster being Mr. Wilson. In 1817 the lobby of the church and staircase werebuilt, an outside wooden stair having for-merly led to the gallery. Tbe arched win-dow giving light in the gable was alsobuilt, and it was thought that the erec-tion of a sort of open battlements on thetop would add to its neatness.
