Parthenogenetic birth. A Lupin Aphid (Microsiphum albifrons) giving birth. The birth is parthenogenetic, that is there has been no fertilisation. The larva is female, and will mate with the male siblings of its parent. This is a form of alternating sexual reproduction seen in many aphids. Magnification: x3 at 35mm size.
