The white lion is a color mutation of lions described in South Africa: first described/apparently originating from the Timbavati area. They are not a separate subspecies. Different cultural groups have strong beliefs about these animals, including considering them divine. They have been reintorduced successfully into the wild in South Africa, and are found in Zoos all over the planet.
