Harrogate Spa

The Harrogate International Centre is a convention and exhibition centre in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. It was first opened in 1982 and was notable as the host of the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest and had expanded overtime to include a 2,000 seat conference auditorium and eight exhibition halls offering 16,500 square metres (178,000 sq ft) of space as well as ancillary facilities including a Holiday Inn (formerly Moat House) hotel. Further refurbishment and expansion is planned between 2009 and 2014 to increase the exhibition space up to 18,500 square metres (199,000 sq ft) at an estimated cost of £45 million. The Royal Hall holds over 1,000 people, whereas the Queens Suite holds up to 600. The HIC is the third largest integrated venue in the UK, beaten in size only by Alexandra Palace in London and by the SECC in Glasgow. The current director of the conference centre is Mr Angus Houston.
