KABUL, Afghanistan (June 4, 2016) – General John Nicholson, Resolute Support and United States Forces-Afghanistan commander, presents the Defense Superior Service Medal to Air Force Brig. Gen. Phillip Stewart, Train Advise Assist Command-Air and 438th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, June 4, 2018, Kabul, Afghanistan. The award was presented to Stewart for his year of service in Afghanistan during which he led a billion dollar, 5-year Afghan Air Force modernization plan, tripling the fleet by 111 aircraft and increasing personnel by 40 percent.
