In males, the brain, masticatory musculature, skull, and mandible are absolutely heavier so that the head mass is greater than that of females. However, as males grow^ beyond 8 kg the remainder of the body outgrows the head and its component tissues and the head continues to drop in relative weight. Thus, the male head becomes smaller.
