A vintage religious portrait of St Hugh of Avalon also known as Hugh of Lincoln (1135-1200, Catholic and Anglican saint who was a French nobleman that became a Benedictine and Carthusian monk and Bishop of Lincoln, England. As in this picture he is usually depicted with a swan in reference to the story of the swan of Stow which became his constant companion and protector. Consequently he is the patron saint of swans as well as sick children, sick people and shoemakers.
