Body feebly compressed, its deptli 44 to o\ times in total moderately depressed, once and \ as long as broad, \ total length ;snout rounded, interorbital region nearly flat, its width not quite halflength of head ; eye lateral, but better visible from above than frombelow, in middle of head, 3J times in length of head and once and \ ininterorbital width ; width of mouth about \ length of head ; upperlip well developed, bordered by papilke forming a fringe; lower lipembracing a mental disk, which is about as long as broad; two barbelson each side, measuring f diameter of eye. Dorsal III 7, equallydistant from centre or posterior border of eye and from caudal; first Fig. Discognathus (F. N.). branched ray longest, as long as head. Anal II 5. Pectoral nearly aslong as head, widely separated from ventral, which is situated belowposterior half of dorsal. Caudal deeply emarginate. Caudal peduncleas long as deep. Scales 35-88 jrf, 3-3^ between lateral line and root ofventral, 16 round caudal peduncle. Yellowish, the scales on the backand sides finely speckled with brown, especially towards the border;a dark brown rhomboidal spot or vertical bar on the caudal peduncle 343 near the base of the caudal, and a more or less distinct daik bar on thebase of the fin; fins whitish, transparent.
