This species is widely distributed throughout the tropical Atlanticanil not infrequently drifts into the bays of the region from the GulfStream. Mayer records it as often taken at Newport in late sum-mer. Specimens were taken off the borders of the Gulf Stream during 1902. This form is similar in general characters and distribution to the pre-ceding. The accompanying figure, after Mayer, gives an idea of its generalshape and size. Chun regards it as an extremely variable species, both inthe size and proportions of the colony.
