It received its name in 1950, after the MIT's Dean of Students Everett Moore Baker was killed in an airplane crash that year. Hugo Alvar Henrik (Ivar) Aalto (1898–1976) was a Finnish architect and designer. His work includes architecture, furniture, textiles plus well as sculptures and paintings. The dormitory was one of his buildings in the USA. His interest in geometry and material led to fluid designs. The dormitory block is clad in New England brick. Alto used this dark red brick, with its rough texture, to clad the serpentine curves of the building. This image is from an old American amateur colour transparency.
