Prehistoric sea serpents. 19th-century cartoon of prehistoric people standing by coastal waters and being scared by sea serpents and other sea monsters. Sightings of various marine animals may have contributed to such legends. This cartoon is from the series 'Prehistoric Peeps'. It was drawn by the British artist Edward Tennyson Reed (1860-1933) and published in 'Punch', a British weekly magazine of humour and satire. This cartoon was captioned: 'No bathing to-day!' This copy of the cartoon was published in 1896.
