A genus of plants standing very high in favor in the horticultural world. The roots being bulbous, they submit to, and are improved by, a season of rest. Their treatment is similar to that of all bulbous plants; in their growing season they want an abundant supply of water. The flowers produced on the summit of astern, about 15 inches long, are large and bell-shaped, and very fine.
