Though he is sure that the gospel will finally prevail, he foreseesfurther and heavier persecutions, as outgrowths of the opinion that seditions andother public calamities arise from the decay of the state religion and the growthof the Church. While God wills, we enjoy peace in a world which hates the Master has overcome the world, so may we by His power. But if He willsthat we should again battle for the faith, let the adversaries come : we can do allthings through Him that strengthens us.
