Illustration of the twin lens array in the Apple laser tracking mouse. Infrared laser light from a Class 1 infrared laser is projected by one lens on to the tracking surface where it is reflected into the second lens mounted at right angles to the first. The collected illumination is projected on to an infrared sensor for processing. The advantage of the laser mouse over the conventional optical mouse is that using an infrared laser instead of a laser diode or LED as the illuminant gives a higher resolution, in the order of 1500 DPI as against the 800 DPI of the optical mouse
