A family of rag pickers pictured on a dump in Virar situated on the outskirts of Mumbai. The garbage is picked over with reusable materials separated from the remainder which is then burnt. The family live close by to the dump and pictures show the families young children who are wiped down with the foul smelling water from the waterway that runs adjacent to it . Mumbai produces 6,000 tonnes of garbage a day. The methods of collection and disposal of garbage are becoming increasingly crucial for city planning as Mumbai's main garbage dumps are full.
