Seaborg is indebted to the pubHc schoolsof his native town for his early educational train-ing, and later he continued his studies in the schoolsof Belmont, San Mateo county, California, besideswhich he completed a course in the Portland Busi-ness College, at Portland, Oregon. As a boy hewas employed for some time in a clerical capacityby the Aberdeen Packing Company, of Astoria, andwith this concern he continued until 1900, in themeanwhile having advanced to a position of dis-tinctive trust and responsibility. In the year men-tioned Mr. Seaborg engaged in the real-estate busi-ness at Ilvvaco, Washington, just across the riverfrom Astoria, and he not only became one of therepresentative business men of this village
