Door knocker of 'Dracula's home', Bran Castle, Bran, Transylvania, Romania

Beware, all ye who enter here. Walk up the steep steps to this doorway and knock to see if Count Dracula is at home. It's unlikely although Bram Stoker's Dracula was based on Vlad the Impaler, the real character probably only visited the castle once or twice. This hasn't prevented a huge and rather tacky tourist trade building up around the spook. The connection was probably made in the early 20th Century when Queen Maria of Romania - grand-daughter of Queen Victoria - moved from England and turned the Castle into a liveable home.
