Interior View of the Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalen, Taddiport. Shows the Organ and Ten Commandments Written on the Internal Wall

In the hamlet of Taddiport (which originally meant 'Toad Gate') is the historic chapel of Saint Mary Magdalen. In the Middle Ages Taddiport was a leper colony and two ‘Leper Fields’ remain visible here. The first mention of this chapel is in 1311 when the chaplain was recorded as Sir Richard de Brent. However, it was not until 1418 that the chantry of Saint Mary Magdalen is listed as a leper hospital in the Registers of the Bishops of Exeter. Although much restored since this time it is Mediaeval and a Grade 2 listed building. The building is small with the tower being only five foot square.
