The UK Government confirms plans to scrap the NHS Direct helpline. The Government has confirmed it is to scrap the National Health Service Direct telephone helpline in England and replace it with a cheaper option. The NHS Direct Phone number is 0845 46 47 and is used to get advice on health issues when the 999 emergency number would not be appropriate. The UK Government are trialling a new non-emergency number – 111 .
