The manner of roughing-in for these fixtures when thelavatory is between the water closet and the bath tub, is Digitized by Microsoft® 64 Principles and Practice of Plumbing shown in Fig. 32, which is simply a variation of the arrange-ment shown in Fig. 31. It does not matter how the fixturesare arranged on the plan, they can be re-arranged or the soilstack can be so located that some modification of these sys-tems of roughing-in can be used. Further, two bathroomson opposite sides of the partition can be roughed-in exactlylike these, duplicating the branches but not the Fig. 31Simiilifled Koiigbing for Bath Room Distance Fixture Can Be from Stack.—Of coursethere is a limit to the distance a fixture can be located fromthe soil stack without venting when the foregoing methodsof roughing-in are used, and this limit is set by the limita-tions of the trap itself. This will be understood by refer-ring to Fig. 33, which shows an ordinary siphon trapattached to a piece of pipe. It will be noticed that thedistance from the top of the pipe to a level line a-b is marked3 inches, which represents a depth of seal in the trap of li/oinches, and the inside bore of the trap, which is IVa inches, making a total of 3 inches in all. Now the trap for a fix-ture can be set at such a distance from the stack that thewaste pipe will not have more than 3 inches fall. With afall of 3 inches, as shown in the illustration, the long leg ofthe trap of siphon is just on a line with the line a-b; anyfurther dip would make the connection a tr
