Henrys reign was em-bittered by the famousstruggle with ThomasBacket, which illustratesadmirably the peculiardependence of themonarchs of his dayupon the was bom inLondon and became achurchman, but he grewup in the service of theking and was able to aidHenry in gaining thethrone.
