Dong Damen, the Eastern Gate, is the only remaining part of the city wall. Hsinchu, Taiwan, ROC. Built in 1826 by Chinese settlers, the city wall was constructed to protect the immigrants from the Taiya, Saisha and Pingpu aboriginal tribes who lived in the area.
