So powerful are weed enemies in reducing crop yields, and at the same time mul- tiplying labor, that the farmer should at every turn strength- en his position against ; This bulletin, like everything else that has ever been pub- lished on the subject, closes with the admonition that to be rid of weeds, pure seed must be sown. Exactly the same thing applies to the seeding of the golf course. If weedy seed is used,seedling grass plants maybe overcome by the weeds sown with the seed, together with those already in the ground. The farmer can practice rotation of crops and cul- tivation as a means of keeping down weeds. This is impos- sible on the links, so it is even more important than on the farm that pure seed of strong vitaUty be [45].
