21-inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes and torpedo storage bays aboard USS Pampanito


USS Pampanito (SS-383) is a World War II Balao class Fleet submarine. Built in 1943 at the Navy Yard Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in just 9 months, and at a cost of 6 million dollars she made six patrols in the Pacific during World War II (between 1944 to 1945), during which time she sank six Japanese ships and damaged four others. From from 1960 to 1971 she served as a Naval Reserve Training ship and is now a National Historic Landmark, preserved as a memorial and museum ship in the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association located at Fisherman's Wharf.
