In his political affil-iations, Mr. Smith is a Democrat, and fraternal-ly, belongs to the Modern Woodmen of is likewise a member of the MethodistChurch. SNOWDEN, William Ellsworth, who is suc-cessfully engaged in farming in Eldorado Town-ship, McDonough County, 111., was born in thattownship December 7, 1861, a son of John andMary J. (Adams) Snowden, natives of Snowden was one of the early settlers inthis vicinity. He first bought a farm of eightyacres, to which he added until he owned 200acres. His second purchase was a farm ad-joining the home place on the north, where hebuilt a large residence in 1879 and lived thereuntil 1893. At that period he retired from farm-ing and moved to Vermont, 111., where he nowresides. His wife died January 6, 1890. William E.
