On the first anniversary of the attack, 19 December 2017, the memorial is officially inaugurated. The memorial consists of a crack that runs through part of the floor at Breitscheidplatz. The crack is filled with a golden alloy. The design of the memorial was decided in the competition "In memory of the victims of the terrorist attack on 19 December 2016, Breitscheidplatz".
